Plan for success at Tech

Many resources are available to General Sciences and Arts students to help them choose the best major and design a rich educational experience.

Jean Blanning - Academic Advisor

Jean has been helping students find what they love at Michigan Tech for years. She will use her contacts across campus to ensure students can find out as much as possible about all their options. Jean meets individually with each student at least once every semester. She helps students plan their schedules, navigate the policies and procedures of the university, and learn to be independent decision makers.

SA1000 - Sciences and Arts Explorations

This one-credit class offers information and guidance that will help you to examine potential majors and careers; to reflect on your own goals, talents, interests, and values; and to further your success in the university. Representatives from all MTU departments will present their programs, and students will receive individual academic and career counseling from university professionals.

Computer Lab

The computer lab for General Sciences and Arts students (located in the Walker building) provides both PC and Mac computers. Many software packages are available to help students with a variety of academic situations. Other students and consultants in the lab are friendly and helpful: they will lend their expertise and advice to anyone in the lab.

University Career Center

The Career Center is a great place for everyone to learn more about themselves and their career choices, but it is an especially rich resource for General Sciences and Arts students. They provide a wide range of information and services, including individual counseling regarding choice of major.
