You might be wondering...

Will I get behind? Will my graduation be delayed?

No. Your academic advisor will help you choose courses that will apply to any major. Your advisor can also help you make wise course choices that will give you insight into possible majors and careers. You won't fall behind academically.

Which students choose this program?

Students with multiple interests and talents; those who have some idea of what they want to major in but want more information before committing themselves; those who plan to transfer to another institution after a year or two at MTU; those who are open to new experiences and ideas; and those who want a college degree but don't have a clear idea of the options for majors and careers. Their reasons are as varied as the individuals themselves.

When can I declare a major?

You can choose a major any time you feel confident that you have found the one that's right for you and you meet the entry requirements of that department. Those requirements vary by department; they typically include things like a satisfactory GPA, a record of success in related courses, or an application essay.

What if I change my mind later?

You can always change your major, although that might delay your graduation. That's why it makes sense to explore your options before you commit to too many courses that may not fulfill requirements in another department.

Will I be required to choose a major in the College of Sciences and Arts?

No, you are free to choose your major from any of Tech's colleges or schools. The important thing is to find the right fit for you.
